Frequently Asked Questions

Curious to know more about Indoor Skydiving at GravityZip? Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions. If you would like to know something that we haven’t covered here, feel free to contact us.

What is Indoor Skydiving?

The sport of indoor skydiving, or body flying, has been gaining popularity worldwide. It is a unique and exciting flying experience that combines the best parts of skydiving (flying and floating) without the need to jump off a plane with a parachute!

What exactly does the experience involve?

It’s a highly exciting experience, where you fly/float within a controlled wind tunnel environment under the supervision of a certified instructor, an experience similar to skydiving but without the turbulence. You are in a consistent environment that allows you to ride the air, defying gravity and experimenting with different angles. The fun part of the experience is learning how to control your flight using different body parts and positions. Of course, your instructor will help you maintain stability throughout, helping you navigate.

Sounds exciting! But is it safe?

Absolutely! Indoor skydiving is a very safe sport. Your safety is our primary concern. Our wind tunnel is uniquely designed with a wall-to-wall air column, and you will fly in the presence of a certified and highly-trained instructor. This technology has been around for many years, continuously improving to enhance comfort, control, and consistency of experience.

Is any special training required before flying?

You do not require any special skills, but you will be taken through a mandatory safety briefing before the flight. That will give you an idea about what to expect and how you can maintain the correct body posture within the tunnel.

When are you launching?

We are working to commence operations in April 2022.

Who can fly?

Anyone in relatively good health can enjoy indoor skydiving – in fact, we will do as much as we can to help you experience the amazing sport of indoor skydiving. Do check the criteria below, though, before you book your flight:

  • Flyers must be over 3 years of age.
  • Flyers who weigh above 120 kg may not be able to fly without evaluation by our staff. Additional restrictions might apply.
  • Women who are pregnant should not fly.
  • Anyone with a hard cast or prosthetic that cannot be removed is restricted from flying.
  • If you have a history of neck, back or heart conditions, you will need to check with your doctor before you try this activity, and sign a waiver prior to flying.
  • You cannot fly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Children under 18 years will need a waiver signed by parents/supervising adult.
Is it a strictly solo activity or can people fly together in pairs or groups?

While it might sound like fun to fly in a group with friends or family, that’s not such a good idea, especially for first-time flyers, as you need to focus on learning what to do. You can all enroll together in a group, but each of you will fly alone with an instructor. Once you become more experienced at flying, you will be able to start flying in tandem with others. Meanwhile, anyone who would like to watch your experience can do so from the observation area.

How long will the session last?

The entire first-time flyer experience takes about 90 minutes, which includes the briefing, gearing up, flying, and more. You will be in close proximity of the tunnel for about 30 minutes in the pre-flight chamber. Actual flight sessions in the tunnel generally last two minutes, almost three times as long as the free fall when you skydive from an aeroplane! Anything longer can tire you out quickly. In fact, even well-trained flyers typically train in two-minute increments.

Can I do tricks and flips in the tunnel?

You certainly can, but only after you have gained experience, as such manoeuvres need a lot of practice. As a first-time flyer, you might be able to try turns or move in various directions if you feel comfortable doing so. Feel free to ask your instructor how you can make the most of your experience. As you start flying more frequently, your learning will be incremental and you will be able to add to your abilities each time. Eventually, you might consider getting certified in this sport!
